7 STYLE SINS – LGFG Fashion House

Most of you have been guilty of a ‘style sin’ at least one or twice in your life. Knowing the Seven Style Sins of menswear is the best way to look great every time you walk out the door. Looking good translates to feeling good about yourself.

The brain makes most of its initial judgments visually so the impression others form of you within a few seconds can colour their perspective. You might be able to change that view in later interactions but why not start off on the right foot?

LGFG Fashion House offers custom tailored business suits. Hand tailored and delivered to your office.

Sin #1 – Poor fitting clothing. The way your clothes hang on your body is one of the most defining aspects of your appearance. A poor fitting men’s suit leaves a bad impression. It looks like you don’t care about your appearance enough to get it right, which may send a signal you don’t put effort into other aspects of your life. In business or on a first date, this can send off subtle warning signs, which can be a career or potential relationship killer.

Sin #2 – Not Dressing for the Occasion. Arriving overdressed or underdressed can make everyone around you feel uncomfortable. Take the time to understand what’s appropriate for every level of formality and check ahead to see what’s right for the particular social or business event or meeting you’re attending.

Sin #3 – Mismatched Patterns. Ouch – patterns that don’t mix well together jar the eye, but wearing only solid colours can be tedious. Avoid both. If you don’t have an eye for what works and you have a tailor who makes custom made suits for you, for example, get advice from him or her.

Sin #4 – Mismatched Colours. Another eyesore. If you’re colour blind or don’t live with someone who can help you out, see Sin #3 above for help.

Sin #5 – Inappropriate Dressing for your Body Type. While some looks and styles work well on certain body types, they can look dreadful on others. Learn what works well on yours—you’ll probably be able to tell by whether you feel comfortable in something and the compliments or lack thereof you receive. Avoid the temptation of wearing something that doesn’t suit you because it’s trendy. Again, working with a tailor especially for business attire will help. And as Shakespeare said, ‘To thine ownself be true’.

Sin #6 – Quantity over Quality. You’re far better off with a leaner wardrobe that makes you look outstanding than a closet full of low quality, poor fitting clothes. Being strategic with your clothing dollars is the better way to go. A custom tailored suit will cost you more, but you’ll look great and it will far outlast an off the rack suit any day.

Sin #7 – Getting the Details Wrong. The devil is in the details, as they say. A great men’s suit or casual outfit can be improved or ruined by something as simple as the wrong cufflinks, belt, shoes or pocket square. Know what works with what you’re wearing and get it right. Again, if you’re unsure, see # 3 above.

Avoid the Seven Style Sins. Less is more—and you’ll save money because you won’t be purchasing clothing that doesn’t fit, is inappropriate or doesn’t suit you.

LGFG Fashion House creates custom tailored, men’s suits. Best possible quality and hand delivered.
