Suit Trends for 2014 – LGFG Fashion House

Are we going to now FINALLY see that long talked-about comeback of the (albeit fitted) double-breasted suit for 2014? Trends point to “no.”

Here’s what’s trending:
-3-piece suits. Back in a big way, a fitted 3-piece suit with a standard 5 or 6 button vest is going to be making more and a more appearances. While a square-bottom vest has set the norm in the past, more recently the angled bottom vest allows for a shorter vest style without compromising the look by draping a full 2” over the belt, as old-school vests tended to do (nowadays a fashion no-no).

-Color, color, color… wait, we are Canadian… ColoUr, coloUr coloUr.  While gray and navy are still your staples, expect to see interesting shades of each to accentuate the wardrobe for 2014. Suits in general have been making a massive comeback into mainstream wear over the last decade, and now colors are coming back; don’t be surprised to see some burgundy and more earth-tones hitting the retail windows soon.

-Accessories: while watches are long losing their practical applications, suspenders stopped being useful with the widespread advent of belts in the 1920’s and bowties are relegated sometimes to the “extreme” of office wear, expect to see more of each of those in the coming year. Accessories are back in a big way, with retailers pushing the boundaries on what’s safe and even what’s expected.

-Shoes: This one is huge. With fashion making a stronger, bolder statement in 2014, shoes will be a big part of your wardrobe. Make sure you have your black and brown wingtips, cap-toe and maybe even a nice office boot for a colder spring.  A high-end pair of high-sheen black shoes for your tuxedo is a good idea too.
